Cleft Lip and Palate Services
RESTORING SMILES, TRANSFORMING LIVES
Every child deserves the chance to eat, speak, and smile without pain or shame. Same Day Foundation’s cleft lip and palate program is more than a surgical initiative—it’s a journey of healing, dignity, and inclusion. By combining free reconstructive surgery with long-term care and family support, we’re giving children born with cleft conditions the opportunity to live full, confident lives—right here in Eastern Uganda.
Impact Goal:
Establish Eastern Uganda’s first regional cleft care center equipped for diagnostics, surgery, therapy, and family counseling.
The Challenge:
Every year in Uganda, hundreds of children are born with cleft lip and palate—a condition that affects feeding, speech, hearing, and social inclusion. Yet, due to limited access to surgical care and stigma, many of these children live without treatment, facing a lifetime of preventable health challenges and discrimination.
Our Solution:
Same Day Foundation is launching specialized cleft care services at Same Day Hospital Mbale to provide timely, compassionate, and comprehensive treatment. We believe that every child deserves the chance to smile, speak, and thrive—regardless of where they’re born.
What we do:
- Free Reconstructive Surgeries: Offering cleft lip and palate repair at no cost to patients
- Comprehensive Assessment Clinics: Multidisciplinary evaluation including pediatric, dental, and ENT specialists
- Speech and Feeding Therapy: Post-operative support to enhance recovery and development
- Parent Education and Psychosocial Support: Empowering caregivers with knowledge and reducing stigma
- Community Outreach: Identifying and referring patients through local health partners and awareness campaigns
- Capacity Building: Training surgical and nursing teams in safe, high-quality cleft care
Our Impact:
- Providing free life-changing surgery to 200+ children annually
- 90% of patients regaining feeding and speech functionality
- Drastically reducing stigma through community awareness
- Creating the only cleft care hub in eastern Uganda
- Building long-term surgical capacity through local training
Hope Restored:
“My son Emmanuel could not breastfeed, and other children teased him so much that he wouldn’t leave the house,” shares Grace, a mother from Sironko. “After his surgery at Same Day Hospital, everything changed. He eats, talks, and plays freely now. I never imagined we would see this day.”
Be Part of the Change:
Your support helps turn a hidden disability into a story of healing. Just $300 funds a full cleft surgery and follow-up care. With your help, more children can smile without fear.
