Environmental Mitigation Plan

The project is designed to minimize negative environmental impacts and promote environmental sustainability. An Environmental Mitigation Plan (EMP) has been developed in accordance with 22 CFR 216 and Uganda’s National Environment Act.

Key Environmental Considerations

WASH Infrastructure

  • Borehole drilling will be conducted using environmentally sound practices to minimize groundwater contamination.
  • Sanitation facilities will be designed to prevent soil and water pollution.
  • Community members will be trained on proper sanitation and hygiene practices.

Hospital Expansion

  • Construction activities will be managed to minimize air and noise pollution.
  • Medical waste will be managed according to national and international guidelines.
  • Energy-efficient technologies, such as solar power, will be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Waste Management

  • The project will establish systems for the safe disposal of medical and other waste.
  • Waste segregation and recycling will be promoted.
  • Staff will be trained on proper waste management procedures.

Water Management

  • Water conservation measures will be implemented in all project facilities.
  • Water quality will be regularly monitored to ensure safety.
  • The project will promote sustainable water use practices in the community.

Climate Change

  • The project will incorporate climate change adaptation measures, such as drought-resistant WASH infrastructure.
  • Renewable energy sources will be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Climate change awareness and education will be promoted in the community

Environmental Mitigation Plan

The EMP will be regularly reviewed and updated as needed to ensure the project complies with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. The following parameters will be monitored:
